The monastery of St John in Müstair (CH)
Description
Art knows no boundaries. Therefore, it is worth crossing the border into Switzerland from the idyllic Monastero Valley and visiting the Monastery of St. John in Müstair, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Charlemagne founded the monastery in the 8th century and entrusted its construction to the bishop of Chur. The church's frescoes date from different periods. The oldest ones are from the Carolingian period, making them a true rarity.
