Roncolo Castle
Description
A few kilometers north of Bolzano, at the entrance to the Sarentino Valley, stands one of the most important castles in the region: Roncolo Castle. A visit to this castle is not to be missed for its many magnificent frescoes depicting court life, knightly adventures, and daily life in the Middle Ages. It is the largest preserved secular fresco complex of the Middle Ages.
Remember that the castle can be reached via a short uphill walk and that the closest driveway access (only drop-off)still involves a 50-meter descent on foot. The picturesque rooms are reachable by stairs, and the courtyard has uneven paving.
