Appiano Castle
Description
Appiano Castle stands majestically above the municipality of Appiano on the Wine Road, at 636 meters above sea level, offering a panoramic view over the entire Adige Valley, the Bolzano basin, extending to the Ötztal Alps, and the Dolomites.
Built around 1130 by Count Ulrich II, the castle was one of the most important fortifications in South Tyrol, with an impressive pentagonal keep of 23 meters.
Today, Appiano Castle is a popular hiking destination for all ages, within an hour's walk from Missiano.
A shuttle service is available for people with mobility difficulties.
The terrain of Appiano Castle is historic and une-ven.
